Renowned political activist, Hajiya Umma Gesto, has reaffirmed her commitment to holding government accountable, declaring that no political appointment will silence her voice against injustice and maladministration.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Daily Reporters editor Nasir Ahmad in Abuja, Hajiya Umma emphasized that her loyalty remains with the Nigerian people and the principles of good governance, not with any political office or administration.
“Whether I am appointed to a position or not, I will never stop speaking the truth,” she stated firmly. “My responsibility is to the people. If the government does wrong, I will say it loud and clear. No office will change that.”
Hajiya Umma Gesto, widely known for her fearless activism and grassroots mobilization, has been a vocal critic of government excesses and policy failures. Her unwavering stance has earned her both admiration and criticism in political circles.
She added that public office should not be a tool for silencing voices of conscience but a platform to serve with integrity.
“I am not in politics for favors or positions. I am in it to make a difference. And that difference starts with truth-telling and accountability,” she told Daily Reporters.
The interview has sparked conversations online and in political corridors, with many praising her boldness at a time when critics of government are often pressured into silence.
Hajiya Umma concluded the interview by urging fellow activists and political figures to remain committed to the people, reminding them that true leadership is about service, not self-preservation.
