The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled House of Representatives member Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, accusing him of engaging in anti-party activities and failing to fulfill his financial obligations.
State Chairman Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa announced the decision on Saturday in Kano, saying Mr. Jibrin had repeatedly attacked the NNPP and its leadership in the media.
He described the lawmaker as a “weak politician” who owed his electoral victory more to the Kwankwasiyya movement, led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, than to personal strength.
“If he were truly strong politically, he would have won under the APC, but he failed. It was only after joining the NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he made it to the House of Representatives.
Now he is deceiving himself, thinking he is strong,” Dungurawa said.
He explained that a reconciliation committee was initially set up to address Mr. Jibrin’s grievances after he criticized the party during an appearance on Channels Television.
However, he said subsequent comments by the lawmaker showed that “he had crossed the line.”
“Instead of dialogue, he went further to undermine the party and openly declared loyalty elsewhere. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” the chairman stated.
Dungurawa also accused Mr. Jibrin of defaulting on membership dues, vowing that the NNPP would take legal steps to recover the money.
“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes. Payment of dues is a constitutional obligation, and he has consistently failed to comply,” he added.
Reacting to speculations that Mr. Jibrin might return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa said the NNPP would not be weakened, stressing that the Kwankwasiyya movement remained united under Mr. Kwankwaso.
