The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued an update on the flash floods that struck communities in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas on Wednesday following hours of heavy rainfall.
According to NEMA, water levels have started to recede in some locations but continue to rise in others, forcing more residents to evacuate their homes.
The floods have damaged dozens of houses, with at least 56 reported completely destroyed.
Two people sustained injuries, while one male resident remains missing.
The disaster has displaced several families. While some victims are sheltering with relatives and host communities, others are being accommodated at a temporary resettlement camp in Girei LGA provided by the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA).
Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, with NEMA coordinating efforts alongside ADSEMA, the Federal and State Fire Services, the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), and local volunteers.
Teams are carrying out search and rescue operations in Jambutu, Doubeli, Rumde, Demsawo, Nasarawo, Limawa, Wuro Jabbe, Damilu, and other affected areas.
Stranded residents have been evacuated to safer grounds, while emergency responders have provided first aid to the injured.
Authorities have also begun setting up temporary shelters in schools and mobilizing relief supplies for displaced families.
Meanwhile, movement remains restricted in submerged neighborhoods, raising concerns about access to critical infrastructure.
Health officials have cautioned residents about the heightened risk of waterborne diseases due to stagnant floodwaters and poor sanitation.
