In a significant move aimed at addressing the lingering political crisis in Rivers State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with key political stakeholders from the state at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Those in attendance included Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, along with several other members of the state assembly.
The meeting, which lasted for several hours, is believed to be part of ongoing efforts by the Presidency to mediate and resolve the internal crisis that has strained the relationship between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, who is widely regarded as a political heavyweight in the state.
Although details of the discussions were not made public, sources close to the Presidency hinted that the dialogue focused on restoring peace and stability in Rivers State’s political landscape, as well as ensuring continued development and governance in the state.
The rift between the two camps has led to a sharp division within the Rivers State House of Assembly, raising concerns over political stability and governance in the oil-rich state.
President Tinubu’s intervention is seen as a strategic effort to douse tensions and foster unity among the political leadership of the state.
More details are expected to emerge as the outcome of the meeting unfolds in the coming days.
